LIVING MY LIFE LIKE IT'S
GOLDEN (Jill Scott)Well, what can I say. In the past few months things have changed so much and life has seemed like a roller coaster at times.
Since my last blog I have started to work with Sprint Nextel in the area of International Roaming coordination. It is a very intereating area to work in and the telecommunications industry is one of the closest I have been in that mirrors the United Nations idea. The GSM Association probably gets more done on an international scale and in terms of international standards, agreements and actions than the UN ever did. So, I have been here for the past 3 -4 months and working especially in the area of Latin America and Africa and have had the opportunity to learn a lot about the industry and put my knowledge of international relations, intercultural communication and negotiations to practice.
Outside of work, I have been learning London and getting to understand the paradigms and mode of life in the United Kingdom. I am always so intrigued by the fact that the United Kingdom, Europe and the USA all profess to be the 1st World and yet some of the behaviours, attitudes and issues that are important or prominent here are not prevalent in the labeled 3rd World.
The UK is an amalgamation of people from every known corner of this rock we call earth and at first glance everyone seems robotic, automatic, all striving to reach that silver lining we have been told can be ours if we stay in school, work hard and uphold the status quo. The cold breezes, frigid raindrops and dark afternoons seem to paralyse the warmth and passionate whirls that inhabit the normal human heart. In my time here I have met a few warriors who have managed to keep that internal fire alive and I suspect that this is achieved through a deep connection with some other culture or spiritual ideas. Everyone here seems as though in their quest to find that dream, that legendary holy grail, they have forgot the importance of human kindness, the significance of mercy and compassion and the power of love.
As time goes on...I am sure I will come to understand the spirit of the people
